TRUCK CONVOY COMING SATURDAY

It’s perhaps one of the most unique and successful fundraisers in the area: “The Make Their Heart’s Smile” Make-A-Wish Truck Convoy is set to rollout from the Clark County Fairgrounds Saturday at noon.

The brainchild of Bill and Punk Montgomery, Granton, the Convoy raised over $13,000 for Make-A-Wish Foundation last year.

“(Make-A-Wish) grants wishes to children between the ages of 2 1/2 and 18 living with life-threatening medical conditions,” explains Punk Montgomery. “It is a worry-free, cost-free wish for them.”

Money is raised through donations, silent auctions with plenty of community-donated prizes and food stands.

Last year, 79 drivers from all over – including Canada – took part in the event. It very well could be the largest truck convoy in the state.

“Everybody is so happy. They hope to make it back the next year. They thank us for having it because they have a good time,” Montgomery say.

Area road construction is prompting a slight change of route this year: the convoy will leave the Fairgrounds at noon, travel east on HWY 10 to Weiler’s Truck Stop at the corner of HWY A and 4th Street in Marshfield, and then back to the Fairgrounds.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Even if you don’t have a semi, you’re welcome to register your vehicle in the convoy with a $10 donation.
