-Governor Scott Walker has declared next week, November 4th-8th, as Winter Awareness Week in Wisconsin.

The Clark County Emergency Management Department want resident to know that the annual campaign, sponsored by Wisconsin Emergency Management, its ReadyWisconsin preparedness program and the NOAA’s National Weather Service, is to remind people to be prepared for winter conditions that could threaten their safety.

Winter weather can be extremely dangerous and even deadly. Driving can become hazardous quickly and drivers must use caution when driving in these conditions. Also, it is recommended to carry an emergency supply kit in your vehicle and your home as well. In your home make sure that exhaust vents for furnaces are clear of snow and ice. Also be sure your home has a carbon monoxide detector and that it is working properly.

Having a NOAA All Hazards Radio is a great first step to being prepared for severe weather. Knowing the terms used to describe winter weather, which includes Winter Storm Watch, Winter Storm or Ice Storm Warning, Blizzard Warning, Wind Chill Advisory and Wind Chill Warning, is also very important.
