-A Black River Falls inmate was sentenced for escaping the Black River Falls Correctional Institution in July of 2012.

James Newman, age 30, was sentenced to an additional 10 years in prison for a felon possessing a firearm. His partner in the incident, 19-year-old James Misleveck was also sentenced for a felon possessing a firearm as well as other misconduct. He received an additional 15 years in prison.

The incident started in mid-July of 2012, when Newman and Misleveck simply walked out the front door of the prison. Ironically, Newman only had five and half months of time left to serve.

Police received a call the next morning about a shotgun stolen from a truck in Black River Falls and then things took a frightening turn when a woman was carjacked at a Black River Falls casino. The suspects took her and the car to Sparta. The woman was let go unharmed and the suspects stole another vehicle. The two suspects were chased to Tomah where they got away on foot.

The two men had then fled to Florida where they beat up a store clerk and led police on a high speed chase before they were captured and brought back to Wisconsin.

Both Newman and Misleveck face numerous other charges related to their escape.
