Owen-Withee And Athens Battle For First Friday

Itís a great way to end the regular season in the Cloverwood Conference as Owen-Withee (8-0) travels to Athens to take on the 7-1 Bluejays on Friday night.

These two teams feature two of the top running backs in the Cloverwood . Bryce Niemi of Owen-Withee leads the conference with 1121 yards on the ground and 14 touchdowns while Lane Tessmer of Athens is third in rushing with 908 yds and he has scored 10 touchdowns. The Blackhawks Albert Goerlitz has 14 touchdowns rushing from the quarterback spot and Athens big senior fullback Dalton Lavicka has over 580 yards rushing and 8 scores.

Athens quarterback Collin Ellenbecker has also thrown 8 touchdown passes on the season.

As a team offensively, Athens averages 328 yards per game while Owen-Withee averages 331 yards a game. Both teams have also scored over 300 points in their 8 games thus far.

Defensively these are the two stingiest in the Cloverwood. Athens gives up only 169 yards a game and Owen-Withee allows just 213 yards a game. Athens has allowed only 60 points so far in 8 games while Owen-Withee has given up just 85.

Athens only loss this season came back in week 2 when they were beaten by Loyal 26-7.
