NEILLSVILLE MAYOR APPOINTED TO STATEWIDE POST

The newest member of the 16-member League of Wisconsin Municipalities’ Board of Directors should be familiar to area residents. Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy was recently appointed to fill the remainder of a board member’s term. Her first official meeting will be this Friday in Menominee.

“The League of Municipalities is a group of cities and villages in the state of Wisconsin,” explains Murphy. “Right now, there are 574 of them that have paid their dues.”

Murphy’s term will end in 2007, but she may be reappointed at that time.

She is hopeful the position will help the City and area’s standing with the League and lawmakers in Madison.

“I am looking forward to doing this. I think it will put Neillsville more on the map with state of Wisconsin. I can represent from this area,” Murphy says. “We will have a direct link to Madison now.”

“While I really can’t be that involved yet, I will probably be more involved. It’s going to help our local government.”

Murphy says she already has a “long agenda” for Friday’s meeting.
