In news that’s sure to make his area supporters elated, U.S. Senator Russ Feingold has told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that would consider running for President.

Neillsville is believed to be the birthplace of the “Draft Feingold for President” movement that failed to convince the Middleton Democrat to run for the country’s highest office last year.

But, in an interview with the Journal Sentinel published today, Feingold said he would consider running for president in 2008 if there is enough encouragement and interest from Democrats and if he thinks he has a real shot at winning the nomination. Feingold intends to increase his national speaking engagements. Feingold is in the process of setting up what is known as a leadership PAC, or political action committee, a common vehicle for potential national candidates to make campaign donations and fund travel.
