VOTERS GET CREATIVE

While Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy had no trouble winning reelection Tuesday, some creative voters made sure she wasn’t without competition.

Murphy, who was unopposed, received 358 votes, 353 votes more than 2nd ward alderman Steve Mabie, who received 5 write-ins.

While Dewey Poeschel was a successful candidate for the School Board, he wasn’t a candidate for Mayor – that didn’t stop four people from writing his name in.

UW-Extension agent Matt Jorgensen received two votes. A host of other received one vote, including Neillsville Superintendent John Gaier and Father Woodrow Pace of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Then things get absurd.

Snoopy, Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse all received write-ins, while one voter simply wrote “anyone else”.

Murphy’s new term will officially begin April 18th at noon.
