THE AMAZING SHRINKING BOARD?

An area County Board may be shrinking.

The Wood County Census Review and Redistricting Committee Tuesday approved sending a resolution to the full County Board that would cut the board in half. Currently there are 38 supervisors, but the Committee feels the County would be better served by only 19.

Wood County currently has the highest number of county supervisors in Wisconsin.

The resolution needs to be approved by a simple majority of the Board, which is expected to take it up at a meeting in April.

The chairman of the Committee says he’s heard from residents interested in the Board’s decision and ready to utilize a new state law that gives the public a referendum mechanism to cut the number of county board members.
