Steven Avery’s lawyer wants new charges against his client thrown out. Avery is due back in court Friday for a motions hearing.
Avery is charged in the grisly murder of 25-year-old Teresa Halbach.
Attorney Dean Strang filed a motion Thursday in Manitowoc County Circuit Court asking a judge throw out recently filed sexual assault, kidnapping and false imprisonment charges because they are based on statements made by Avery’s 16-year-old nephew Brendan Dassey, who now is charged with being party to the killing.
Strang says the statements are unreliable and inadmissible.
Dassey is also scheduled to be in court Friday, for a status conference in his case.
