-Sheriff Greg Herrick wants to warn Clark County citizens of recent complaints that have resulted in substantial financial losses to vulnerable citizens.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Department has recently been investigating complaints from county citizens regarding theft, fraud and intimidation. The suspects in these cases have been randomly locating residents that appear to have large amounts of scrap metal in their yards. The suspects will make contact with the owners indicating that they will clean their yard by removing the scrap metal. They then attempt to create a personal connection with home owners, then requesting financial assistance from them.

Once this connection is made, the homeowner is being pressured or intimidated in providing funding to these subjects. There are currently cases pending where the suspects return for additional funding or forge documents of the home owner for financial gain.

Sheriff Herrick reminds citizens to know the people who indicate they want to scrap. “It is very important to know the people who want to take the scrap metal. But most importantly do not create this personal relationship with them.” By allowing these subjects in the residences the suspects are more likely to return and most likely commit additional crimes when they return.

If any citizen has unwanted people on their property they are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 1-800-743-2420 or if it is an emergency to dial 9-1-1.
