-On February 1, The Granton Community Library will be honored in the capitol rotunda by the Department of Public Instruction.

The library will be honored with the Standing up for Rural Schools, Libraries and Communities Award.

In August of 2012, the Samson Memorial Library combined with the school library to share space and resources. Samson Memorial Library had a lot to offer the community, however, they had outgrown their space and they could not afford to automate the materials and the hours of operation were limited because of the funding.

The Granton School Library had space and resources to offer. The village board, the Samson Memorial Library board and the Granton School board decided to combine the two resources.

The library now offers much more space for all materials, increased hours for the community and the students, wireless internet and interlibrary loan.

The biggest benefit that the library has seen so far is the increased cooperation between the community and the school. The involved parties really stretched the budgets and the resources to offer the greatest amount of service, to the widest audience, for the most effective cost.

Congratulations to the Granton Community Library for receiving the Standing Up for Rural Schools, Libraries and Communities Award.
