GOOD TIMING FOR NEILLSVILLE B-BALL SUCCESS

--It appears Neillsville’s successful basketball seasons couldn’t have come at a better time as the school will likely have to compete against bigger schools next year.

Since the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association in the early ‘90’s switched from a three class system, to their current four division system, Neillsville has primarily been a “Division 3” school.

WIAA Associate Director Deb Hauser tells Central Wisconsin Broadcasting News that Neillsville’s basketball, volleyball and softball teams will almost certainly get bumped up to “Division 2” next year.

The divisional parameters are based on enrollment figures. The largest 116 schools are placed in “Division 1”, the next 116 schools are placed in “Division 2”, the next 128 schools are considered “Division 3” and the remaining schools comprise “Division 4”.

Neillsville has a listed high school enrollment of 428, which would make them a small “Division 2” school. The smallest D-2 school has a current enrollment of 408.

However, Hauser says the Basketball Coaches Advisory Committee will meet in March and might recommend changes to the division formulas.
Any changes would have to be approved by the WIAA Board of Control, which will act in June.
