-CESA 10 has been chosen as a finalist for the Race to the Top grant.

Over 29 school districts comprise CESA 10 and many of them are right here in Clark County. Abbotsford, Colby, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Medford, Neilsville, Owen-Withee and Spencer are all a part of CESA 10 and it would have more than 15,000 students participating in the program funded by the grant.

Cooperative Educational Service Agency or CESA 10 based out of Chippewa Falls, had their application chosen last week and they are one of 61 finalists nationwide and the only Wisconsin applicant chosen to move to the next round.

The U.S. Department of Education will name between 15 and 25 winners of grants, ranging from $5 million to $40 million by the end of the year.

CESA 10’s grant application focused on implementing individualized learning plans for students and shifting away from a “traditional grade-based system to a more fluid mastery-based learning system,” which bring parents, teachers and students together to design learning paths.

If named as a winner of the grant, CESA 10 would receive $29.8 million during the next four years, with the program going into full effect for the 2015-16 school year.
