-We have the final pieces of data from the Shop Local 30 Campaign for you.

According to the data, most of the participants in the study were “blue collar” workers ages 50-60. The study also found that over 8,000 dollars left the city during the time of the campaign, by those participating in the study, and most of that money went to Marshfield when people did shop out of town.

Participants were also asked to record their primary reason for traveling outside of the city.

The top response was for a medical appointment (12.99%); followed by travel for leisure (11.04%); shopping for groceries (8.44%); and shopping for clothing (7.79%).

Focusing on another angle, the Chamber found the top five categories of items purchased outside of the city by frequency: groceries (20.13%), clothing (14.29%), hardware (10.39%), health and beauty items (7.79%), and pet care (6.49%).

These results are more meaningful when expressed in monetary terms. The actual value of items purchased by category: groceries - $1,373.11; clothing - $1,344.61; hardware - $646.71; pet care - $771.38.

Keep in mind that this was only part one of the data, part two will delve deeper into the results of the campaign and speculate on possible economic development opportunities for the community.
