University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire emerged victorious, while UW-Stevens Point fell short in its match in first round contests of the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship in St. Paul, Minn., on Thursday.

The Blugolds upended Wartburg College (Iowa) 21-25, 25-17, 14-25, 25-19, 15-12. UW-Eau Claire (26-11) will meet University of St. Thomas (Minn.) (35-1) in a second round contest in St. Paul tonight at 7 p.m.

UW-Stevens Point dropped a 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 20-25, 12-15 decision to Northwestern College (Iowa).
