-James Weber, a former Marshfield Clinic research scientist who helped revolutionize the study of human genetics, on Thursday night was named the 15th recipient of the Clinic’s Heritage Award.

Weber, age 60, a longtime scientist at Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation and current president of Prevention Genetics, has played a pivotal role in genetics research and elevated the reputation of the Clinic’s genetics program.

For instance, he developed the “Marshfield Maps,” which became the most used and reliable map of the human genome before it was sequenced.

“Dr. Weber was given the award due to his significant contributions to society through cutting edge genetics research. During his 20 years at the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation, he directed research resulting in discoveries of international acclaim,” said Dr. Brian Ewert, Clinic president and CEO. “He is a major contributor to understanding the human genome and discovering genetic links to diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.”
