FEINGOLD SAYS DEMOCRATS HAVE BECOME "WIMPY"

Even with the table apparently set, a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin isn’t so sure his party is going to have a good 2006. During a listening session in Neillsville on Saturday, U.S. Senator Russ Feingold (D-Middleton) was asked if he thought the Democrats would have a good 2006.

"I was real enthusiastic believing this would be a great year for Democrats. I still hope it will be, but I'm starting to wonder," Feingold says.

The problem, says Feingold, is many of his party-mates have gone into a "foxhole" on important issues.

"A lot of Democrats that agreed with me on problems with the Patriot Act are going to vote to renew it basically the same way it was," Feingold laments. "I don't know how people think this works. If you act wimpy, do people go 'o.k., they're wimpy so now we'll vote for them."

Feingold said last week he'll do "whatever it takes" to prevent Congress from approving a newly reached compromise on the Patriot Act.
