Road Construction Activity Means Drivers Be Careful

With summer officially here, vacation season is reaching its peak and so is road construction activity around the state.

It means motorists need to be especially careful as they navigate through work zones which often feature narrow lanes, uneven pavement and lane shifts. Lower speed limits in construction zones apply at all times — whether workers are present or not.

Last year in Wisconsin, there were over 1,700 work zone crashes that killed eight people and injured about 750 more. While construction workers are particularly vulnerable, the majority of deaths and injuries in work zone crashes are to motorists and their passengers.
