Marshfield Middle School to Remain Open

The Marshfield School Board voted 4-3 earlier this week to keep the current middle school open.

The decision to keep the school open means the district will now move forward with up to five million dollars in renovations. But, that could mean higher taxes for the local taxpayers. But, board member Randell Kruger is optimistic they can find a way to keep taxes at bay, and the renovations on track.

The other option the board had was to close the middle school and transfer the students to Grant Elementary. From there, the district would have to relocate the elementary students to other schools. School Board President Tim Deets thought that was a better idea. But, many parents say the board's decision to keep the middle school up and running was the right one, even if it means paying higher taxes.

Going forward, the board must now figure out the cost of the renovations and figure out how to pay for it. A task, many board members say will take some time.
