DAIRY HERDS DOWN, MILK PRODUCTION UP
Thursday, December 29th, 2005 -- 11:48 am Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
Wisconsin had 14,894 dairy herds milking during the month of November--about 42 less than the previous month, and about 450 fewer than last year. Clark County continues to hold the highest number of herds in the state with 1,014. But, even though the number of farmers is decreasing, total milk production is increasing. Wisconsin's dairy farmers produced 1.83 billion pounds of milk in November--five percent more than last year.
