No Damage Caused by Marshfield Company's Dye

-A Marshfield DoorSystems dye that seeped into Mill Creek last week apparently has caused no environmental damage, according to Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

According to the Marshfield News Herald, the DNR began receiving complaints March 30 about a blue substance in Mill Creek. The agency determined the substance entered the creek after leaving the Marshfield Wastewater Utility.
DNR officials eventually traced it back to DoorSystems.

The blue dye, Novasolve Blue 617, is used by DoorSystems in its manufacturing process. The dye is not considered hazardous by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

On March 28, while cleaning out the dye containers so they could be recycled back to the substance's manufacturer, the "dye accidentally was not completely neutralized in the cleaning process," according to a statement from DoorSystems parent company Masonite Corp.

"The resulting blue water was discharged to the Marshfield wastewater treatment system," the company said.

The DNR has not observed any damage to the creek nor seen any harm to fish or other animals as a result of the incident.
