New Math Program Coming to Greenwood

-The Greenwood Elementary School is trying an enriched Math Program.

Nick Akres (5th), Scott Schiller (6th), and Lee Briggs (6th) thought up the program and gave a presentation to board members and parents regarding everything the program would include.

The teachers explained to me that they noticed students were excelling in math and found that some were bored with the current material. They thought that since there is already an accelerated program in the middle school, why not move it down into 5th and 6th grade for the students benefit.

The students will be provided with accelerated material, getting some ideas and concepts before those in the regular program. The teachers will use different assessments to see if a student will benefit and excel in the program and take the initiative to learn it.

So far, parents and board member are very excited about the program and think it will be a great way to challenge students and help them meet Wisconsin’s new education standards.
