New Neillsville Football Coach Wants Uniformity
Thursday, February 23rd, 2012 -- 6:29 am
Posted by Larry Hoeser, Sports Director

The Neillsville Varsity football team has just 5 wins over the last two years and one of new head coach John O’Leary’s main goals is to get some uniformity in the program.

John was an assistant with the Neillsville football program back in the late 90’s along with helping out at other school’s football programs. John was also the head baseball coach in Neillsville for 15 years.

Uniformity in the program from the varsity all the way down to youth football and progression- based tactics will be a key for coach O’Leary in getting the program back on its feet. This means building on skills and doing them over and over until they are run well.

O’Leary is also looking at getting a passing league together in Neillsville, something that players from Neillsville have done in the past in Marshfield. As mentioned, O’Leary was the head baseball coach in Neillsville and he says coaching football is a much larger undertaking than coaching baseball and it’s going take a group effort, from not just coaches on his staff, but other volunteers that will help out in order for the team to do well.
