Former Fort McCoy commander Ray Boland plans to formally launch his run for Congress Thursday night in Sparta.

The former Wisconsin Secretary of Veterans Affairs announced his plans in December to run against seven-term incumbent Democrat Ron Kind. Boland, who is 74 and a Vietnam War veteran, cited “runaway spending, reckless borrowing, managerial dysfunction and political gridlock” as reasons for his first shot at elected office.

Kind, 48, will seek his eighth term representing the district.
