Amish Need ID, Not Photo ID, to Vote

Wisconsin’s new Voter Photo ID Law will have some exemptions that will impact a number of people in our area.
Clark County Clerk Christina Jensen is working with the Health Department to get the word out to the county’s Amish population about the new rule.
Jensen has been told by the Government Accountability Board that people that can’t get their picture taken because of religious beliefs will be exempt from getting a photo ID. They will still need a state-issued Voter ID card to vote.
Jensen says the Amish and others whose religion prevents them from getting their picture taken, must go to a Department of Motor Vehicles location and fill out an affidavit. They must also prove their name, date of birth, Wisconsin residency and legal U.S. residency. They will need to present a birth certificate and an official document, like a bank statement or utility bill, with their address.
Everyone else will need to present one of eight different kinds of identification to receive a ballot. The most common types are a Wisconsin driver license, a Wisconsin state ID card, military ID or a Passport.
The April General Election will be first to require voters to present a photo ID.
