Proposed Persian Gulf Tribute Takes Shape at The Highground

(Neillsville, Wis.) 2012 is going to be a huge year for a group working to honor soldiers that served in the wars in the Middle East.

Nancy Olson is a member of The Highground’s Persian Gulf Tribute Committee. Her husband, Todd, was killed in Iraq in 2004.

"We've been meeting since the fall of 2007 trying to organize a tribute at The Highground for all those that have served since the 80s and are still serving today," Olson says.

Last summer, the committee selected a tribute entitled “The Bootprint Design,” submitted by Hortonville, Wisconsin-based Blue Design Group. With a design selected, the group is currently in fund-raising mode.

"It's going to cost us about $750,000. We have a third of that raised already," she says. They recently accepted a donation of $10,000 from Hardee's, but "every little bit helps," she says.

The committee has been moving ahead aggressively. They hope to reach their fund-raising goals and get the Bootprint design constructed this year.

The Persian Gulf Committee's next meeting will be Saturday, January 14th at 10 a.m. at The Highground. Olson says people are welcome to attend the meeting and call The Highground to help in anyway they can.
