A tract of land in Clark County will be among five proposed Agricultural Enterprise Areas up for a public hearing next week.

An AEA is a contiguous block of mainly agricultural land that local communities have targeted for agricultural preservation and agricultural development. Farmers in those areas are eligible for tax credits.

The Heart of America's Dairyland AEA, includes land in the Towns of Mayville, Colby, Unity, Beaver and Loyal in Clark County.

With the designation of the five new areas, there will be 17 AEAs totaling approximately 340,000 acres around the state. The public hearing on the designation will be held December 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the DATCP main office in Madison.
