A former commander at Fort McCoy plans to run for Wisconsin's 3rd Congressional District.

Ray Boland, Sparta, says he'll try to unseat Democrat Ron Kind who's been in office since 1996. Boland is a retired colonel and former state Secretary of Veteran Affairs.

”People throughout this District tell me that my proven record of leadership and accomplishment are what they expect from their representative in the U S. Congress,” Boland stated in press release issued Tuesday. “I have devoted my entire life to serving our great country and I will begin this campaign with that same sense of duty to the citizens of this District."

Boland retired from Fort McCoy in 1991 and served in state government until 2003.
