SEN. SCHULTZ TO BREAK FROM REPUBLICANS ON RECALL BILL

A moderate Republican says he will break with his party and vote against a bill that would make it more difficult to recall incumbent lawmakers from office.
Sen. Dale Schultz’s announcement means Republicans don't have the 17 votes necessary to pass a bill being fast-tracked through the legislature. Republicans have 17 seats in the Senate and need 17 votes to pass the bill, assuming all 16 Democrats vote against it.
The bill up for a hearing today would make the new Republican-friendly legislative boundaries in effect immediately and for any recall elections that would take place next year.
Schultz says he opposes it because he thinks voters who elected him should have the say on whether he is recalled.
