LOCAL SCHOOL LEVIES DOWN
Thursday, October 27th, 2011 -- 8:24 am Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
The public school portion of your property tax bill should go down this year.
Granton, Greenwood, Loyal and Neillsville school boards all approved tax levy decreases for the 2011-12 school year. Neillsville’s mill rate will increase because of a substantial drop in property value.
Loyal will enjoy the most drastic drop, as their levy will sink $131,200 (8.75%) to $1,368,800. The tax rate will drop 5.76% to $8.01 per thousand dollars of property.
Greenwood’s tax rate will be one cent less than in 2010 at $11.98. Granton's mill rate will be six cents lower at $12.45.
Neillsville’s property valuation plummeted by $9 million, so even though their levy will decrease by nearly $17,000, the tax rate will jump by fifteen cents to $9.04 per thousand dollars of property.
