CONCEALED CARRY FAQ

(Press Release) On November 1, 2011, the Department of Justice (DOJ) will begin processing applications for concealed carry permits, making Wisconsin the 49th state to recognize lawful concealed carry.

To better prepare residents who wish to apply for a concealed carry permit, the DOJ has updated its “Frequently Asked Questions” website.

The site is available at the following link:

http://www.doj.state.wi.us/dles/cib/ConcealedCarry/ConcealedCarry.asp

This newly created page provides important updates, including a link to the emergency rules, application and training requirements information, and a model certificate to serve as a guide for instructors providing students with proof of training. Permit application forms will be made available online and by mail on November 1, 2011.

“Implementing Wisconsin Act 35 has been a top priority for me and for the DOJ since it was signed into law back in July,” Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said. “I am proud of the tireless work being done by people at the DOJ and look forward to issuing permits to qualified applicants as soon as possible.”

The site also lists out-of-state licenses that will be recognized in Wisconsin when the law takes effect, but applicants should keep in mind the list – and the list of states that will recognize Wisconsin licenses – is still being updated. (Note: In Wisconsin, state residents must have a Wisconsin concealed carry license to carry concealed.)

Resources for instructors who wish to view a model four-hour training curriculum also have been posted.

It’s recommended applicants and anyone interested in Wisconsin’s new concealed carry law check back November 1, 2011, for the latest information.
