VOTE ON SMART GROWTH 'OPT OUT' BILL DELAYED

There’s been a delay to a bill moving through the Wisconsin legislature.

AB 303, which would remove a state mandate that local governments have comprehensive plans, was to be voted on by the Assembly Committee on Urban and Local Affairs Tuesday morning, but it was pulled from the agenda.

A representative from lead author Rep. Mary William’s office says the committee planned to offer amendments to the bill and the sponsors of the measure wanted time to review the changes.

The staffer believed the vote might happen at a meeting next Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a companion bill in the Senate is still waiting to be scheduled for a hearing in front of the Economic Development and Veterans and Military Affairs.

The measure must pass through committee, both houses of the legislature and be signed by the Governor before it becomes law.

The Clark County Board shot down a proposed plan earlier this month, apparently in the expectation that this legislation will pass.
