85% OF RETAILERS PASS TOBACCO COMPLIANCE CHECK

Clark County Health officials are saying “thank you” to the retailers who passed recent tobacco compliance checks.

In conjunction with the WiWins program, random checks were conducted over the summer around the county. An underage volunteer went into retailers and attempted to purchase tobacco products.

About 85% of the businesses passed the compliance check by requesting to see ID and not selling the tobacco products to the minor.

A “Thank you for Checking” card and letter was sent out to those retailers.

When a business fails to be compliant, the local Police Department is notified and a warning/citation may be given. A letter is also sent to the manager informing them of the sale along with a card offering free training on how to check ID’s.
