A horse in Clark County has tested positive for West Nile Virus.

The horse exhibited signs of a neurological disease and was submitted for testing on August 30th. It tested positive for the mosquito-borne illness, according to a press release from the Clark County Health Department.

This is the first case of WNV confirmed in Clark County this year. Officials say it’s evidence infected mosquitoes are in the area and residents should be more vigilant in protecting their animals and themselves.

80% of people infected with WNV don’t even get sick. Most that do only get mild symptoms, but about 1% of those infected become seriously ill.
