AREA SCHOOLS MAKE THE GRADE

A few area schools were recognized Thursday as Wisconsin Schools of Recognition.
These schools are among the highest poverty schools in the state, but student achievement on statewide reading and mathematics assessments exceed the state average and also beat the average for schools with similar poverty rates.
These area schools made the list: Abbotsford High School, Alma Center-Humbird-Merrillan Junior High School, Greenwood Elementary and Owen-Withee Elementary.
In all, 116 schools received the distinction.
They’ll all receive a plaque and check for $5,000.
