There will be plenty of new faces welcoming area students back to school on Thursday.

Changes to Wisconsin's collective bargaining rules prompted many area teachers to retire in the hopes of keeping their post-employment benefits.

There will be 51 new certified teachers in Granton, Loyal, Greenwood and Neillsville, a 29% turnover.

The most striking turnover will be in Granton, where 16 of their 25 teaching positions (64%) will be occupied by people that weren’t on staff last year.

Neillsville has 15 new faces amidst their 73 total positions (21%).

Greenwood has nine new teachers among the 37 total positions (24%).

In Loyal, 11 of their 43 teachers are new to their jobs (26%).
