STORM DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT $700K

Tuesday’s storms caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to homes and utilities.

The latest estimates show about $600,000 of damage to private residents and about $100,000 to utilities, according to Clark County Emergency Management Director Michelle Hartness.

The EF-2 tornado, with winds of up to 130 miles per hour, destroyed four homes, damaged nearly two dozen more, and flattened four barns and 15 outbuildings.

But Clark County Sheriff Greg Herrick says it could have been worse.

"We were very fortunate," Herrick said Thursday, "it's a rural area. Big fields. The fact that no one was seriously injured in the homes that were destroyed is very fortunate. We're lucky."

Just a reminder that anyone interested in assisting with tornado clean up can go to the Fremont Town Hall in Chili until 7 p.m. Friday night. The Chili Fire Department and Salvation Army will be coordinating volunteers with cleanup projects.

Hartness says no volunteer clean-up is planned for the weekend.
