'MILC' STILL IN JEOPARDY

It appears the MILC Program may not be revived after all. The Fiscal Year 2006 Agriculture Appropriations bill that was passed last week did not include the proposed extension of the Milk Income Loss Contract program. That program is seen as an important safety net for small farmers; it pays farmers when the price of milk dips below a target price. Mark Green, a Republican congressman says the MILC extension’s only chance of survival remains in the hands of a conference committee.
