NEILLSVILLE SCHOOL BUDGET PROPOSED

Neillsville School District residents can expect the school portion of their property tax bill to go up.
According to the district’s preliminary budget proposal, the tax levy, which is the amount of revenue that will come directly from local property tax payers, will go up 2.2% to $4.06 million.
The levy will go up, even though total expenditures will go down by about $308,000, or 2.2%.
The reason is non-property tax revenue is expected to plummet. The most glaring decrease is in state aid. According to the preliminary budget, Neillsville will receive about $675,658 less from state sources next year; that’s a decrease of 10%.
Superintendent John Gaier says it’s still too early to know was the property tax rate will be, but it will likely increase because property values are projected to have fallen.
Neillsville’s annual school board meeting will be Monday night at 7 p.m.
