MILK PRICES LOOKING UP
Monday, July 25th, 2011 -- 11:34 am Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
Dairy farmers could enjoy good milk prices for awhile.
According to Wisconsin Ag Connection, lower increases in milk production, a boost in dairy exports and the recent heat wave may all work together to keep milk prices near the $20.00 level through the end of the year.
Dr. Bob Cropp of the University of Wisconsin-Extension says the USDA's milk production report for June showed most midwestern states, including Wisconsin, producing less milk.
The July Class III price will be above $21.00 compared to just $13.74 last year.
The August price is expected to hold near those levels, in part due to the recent heat wave, which stresses cows and usually reduces yields.
