There’s good news and bad news concerning the weather today (Wednesday). The good news is today is expected to be the last day of the heat wave; the bad news is it’s going to be the hottest day yet.

The National Weather Service predicts we’ll reach a very sticky 96-degrees today, with a heat index reading of around 110 to 115.

Tomorrow will be warm and humid as well, but highs are expected to top out in the mid 80s.

Another hot sticky day gave way to more severe weather Tuesday.

Locally, the worst weather was reported in a line from around Spencer to southwest Taylor County.

A funnel cloud was spotted near Veefkind, southeast of Loyal.

There were reports of flash flooding in Unity, where about 5 inches of rain fell in a short amount of time.

Severe thunderstorms hit Stevens Point particularly hard, cutting power to thousands, bringing down trees and power lines and prompting the mayor to ask citizens to stay home.

That travel advisory was lifted by daybreak.
