WDC FILES OPEN RECORDS REQUEST TO SEE REDISTRICTING MAPS

Rumors continue to circulate that Republican legislative leaders will try to pass redistricting maps in early July; it would be an unprecedented move to approve legislative and congressional redistricting before local municipalities complete their process.
The proposed maps are being circulated among Republican legislators, but the public might get to see them soon.
The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign filed open records requests today asking Republicans to make public the maps.
The maps were created by lawyers at a cost to taxpayers of $50,000 a month, or $300,000 and counting.
States must redraw the boundaries of their legislative and congressional districts every decade based on new census data to make sure all districts have roughly the same population.
