FUNDRAISING CONTINUES FOR TSUNAMI VICTIMS

It’s been a couple weeks since one of the worst natural disasters in history reeked havoc over much of coastal Asia and money-raising efforts continue. Pattie Kelnhofer of the Wood County Red Cross (which also covers Clark County) says over $10,000 has been raised locally for tsunami relief.

"In fact, I had one donor who opened his wallet he took out some money, then he took out more and then he took out more. I really believe his wallet was empty when he finished," Kelnhofer related, "Those are the types of donors. They are so emotionally impacted by what they've been hearing."

Kelnhofer has also been in contact with a Marshfield woman whose mother is actually from Sri Lanka – one of the hardest hit areas. It took a couple of days, but the woman learned her mother was alright.

"They had been in our community for a number of years and were relieved they effort from people in our area was so forthcoming and that the people in central Wisconsin cared so much for a country she grew up in."

The Red Cross hopes to raise $400-million for relief efforts – they’ve already raised over $150-million as the death toll from the disaster is now well over 150,000. If you would like to give, you can go online to www.redcross.org or call 1-800-HELP-NOW – or simply get in contact with your local chapter.
