CLARK CO. PREPARING FOR LIFE AFTER COLLECTIVE BARGAINING

A proposed committee would help Clark County navigate life after collective bargaining.

According to Personnel Director Kathryn Roellich, the Personnel Committee is recommending a new 6-member committee be formed to figure out what changes to collective bargaining will mean for the county.

The Budget Repair Bill was passed by both houses of the legislature and signed into law, but it hasn’t been implemented because of a court-issued injunction.

Roellich says it would scrap contracts completely. The county would have to decide what contract items—such as overtime pay, sick leave and family leave—will be placed into personnel policy. Any proposed personnel policy changes would likely have to be approved by the full county board.

The bill would prevent unions from negotiating for anything other than base salary.
Clark County currently has contracts with 7 different unions representing roughly 500 workers.

The County Board is expected to take up the proposal at their meeting later this month.
