BREAKFAST ON THE FARM

June Dairy Month is underway, and that means the dairy breakfast season is upon us.

The Granton FFA Alumni held their annual breakfast at the Dave and Karen Tyler Farm yesterday morning. There were the typical sights, sounds and tastes with pancakes, sausage and secret-recipe eggs—there was even live polka music and beautiful weather.

Granton FFA adviser Cheryl Steinbach said the idea behind having breakfast on the farm was to get folks together for a nice meal and educate non-farm families about where their food really comes from.

"They're giving tours of the new dairy parlor facility, there are pigs here for the kids," she explains. "It's basically just to let people see the real side of the agriculture production. We see the food in the store when we buy it, but we don't understand where it comes from."

It takes a lot of planning—and even more food—to host hundreds of people for breakfast.

"As of this point (9 a.m.) we're up to 250 dozen eggs. Lots of pancakes and about 500 pounds of sausage," Steinbach tallies.

Steinbach expected to feed about 1,800 people yesterday.

The proceeds go to fund scholarships, leadership workshops and other FFA chapter activities.
