Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A 51-year-old Marshfield man is dead after being struck by a Canadian National train Thursday afternoon.

Authorities have ruled the death of Carl Lietz a suicide.

The man was reportedly walking down the middle of the tracks with his head down and made no attempt to get out of the way, even after the conductor blew the engine’s whistle and attempted to break.

The collision occurred at around 3:30 p.m. between Oak and Chestnut avenues.

The Marshfield NewsHerald reports this is the third train-related fatality in three years in the city's downtown.
