NEW CVTC NEILLSVILLE CAMPUS BUSY

Chippewa Valley Technical College’s new facility in Neillsville is getting a lot of use. CVTC officials say every category of operation has sharply more students than it did a year ago.
For instance, the Business Lab's enrollment is up 80-percent from the fall of 2004. Academic Services, which includes the pursuit of various high school equivalencies, as well as tutoring and citizenship offerings, recorded an 11-percent increase from the same time last year.
CVTC Vice President of Education Joe Hegge says it’s obvious area residents enjoy the new industrial park facility.
"The reality was it was very crowded (at the Downtown location). That's not as conducive to learning. Now we have a better situation for people to learn," Hegge says.
CVTC president Bill Ihlendfeldt has noted the Neillsville building was constructed so it could be easily added on to. Hegge says the successful first year bodes well for the future.
"I would say it does very much so, but it's not imminent," Hegge says. He compares the Neillsville facility to a similar facility they built in River Falls. "Six years ago, we built a 20,000 square foot facility in River Falls. Today, we're full to overflowing. We have plans on the board to expand our River Falls campus."
"It's a little too soon for Neillsville, but yes, that's what I think is going to happen," Hegge says.
CVTC’s headcount is around 100 students here in Neillsville. Hegge says they’ve added a Medical Assistant program at the campus and more healthcare offerings could be in the works.
