WEAU TRYING TO MOVE FORWARD
Thursday, March 31st, 2011 -- 11:27 am Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
It could take a long time to reconstruct a massive tower near Fairchild that collapsed last week.
The tower was used to broadcast WEAU-TV’s signal to a huge area, including Hayward to the north and Tomah to the south.
TV-13 is currently broadcasting on digital broadcast channel 18.3, but to a much smaller area. Cable and dish subscribers can also find TV-13.
According to an article in the Country Today, TV-13 could return to its normal frequency by the end of April. They plan to rebuild the tower near Fairchild, but it could take a long time to get the necessary permits.
The 2,000-foot tower—the tallest structure in Wisconsin—fell on March 22nd during a massive wind and ice storm. No one was injured, but the collapse caused significant damage to an Eau Claire County highway.
