NEILLSVILLE GIRLS WIN CLOVERBELT CHAMPIONSHIP

The Neillsville girls basketball team won the Cloverbelt Conference Championship on Saturday downing Eau Claire Regis 47-44. Neillsville (22-0) got out to a 10-8 lead after 1 quarter and then led by 4 at the half. The Warriors continued to control tempo of the game and took a 31-24 lead into the final quarter. Regis (21-1) battled back in the 4th quarter and stayed close throughout the quarter, but Neillsville continued to hit freethrows down the stretch and the Ramblers could not get closer than 2 points and Neillsville hung on for the 47-44 win. Neillsville was led by freshman Jenny Lindner with 19 points, MacKenzie Trunkel added 9 and Sami Pfieffer had 8 points including 6 for 6 from the line. Heather Bowe led Regis with 12. Both teams have byes in the first round of the Girls State Tournament which starts Tuesday.
