BERRY GOOD YEAR

The weather wasn’t great, but cranberry producers in Wisconsin still harvested their second largest crop ever.

Wisconsin produced 3.96 million barrels of the tart fruit in 2010, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. That total easily led the nation, and accounted for 58% of the U.S. total.

The increase of 10,000 barrels from 2009 amounts to growth of only a fraction of a percentage point. Still, that was good news considering national production was down 2 percent.
